America the Beautiful - Access Pass

A pass is a ticket to more than 2,000 federal recreation sites. Each pass covers entrance fees at national parks and national wildlife refuges as well as standard amenity fees (day use fees) at national forests and grasslands, and at lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A pass covers entrance, standard amenity fees and day use fees for a driver and all passengers in a personal vehicle at per vehicle fee areas (or up to four adults at sites that charge per person). Children age 15 or under are admitted free.

America the Beautiful - Senior Pass

America the Senior Pass costs $80 Lifetime Senior Pass and $20 Annual Senior Pass. It's available for U.S. citizens or permanent residents age 62 or over. Applicants must provide documentation of age and residency or citizenship.

Mid-America Paralyzed Veterans of America (MPVA)

The Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) is a nonprofit organization chartered by the United States Congress and dedicated to serving the needs of its members.

PVA is a leading advocate for: Quality healthcare, research and education addressing spinal cord injury and dysfunction, benefits, civil rights and opportunities that maximize the independence of our members.

Sponsors fishing tournaments and trapshoot events that are accessible to people with disabilities. A great source of information on other sports activities including bowling, softball, basketball, shooting sports, hunting, snow skiing, camping, pool and various outdoor sporting events. PVA's "Step Outside" program offers multiple sports and outdoors experiences. PVA also provides information on wheelchair accessible fishing and hunting facilities and publishes a calendar of sports/outdoor events.

The Mid-America PVA Chapter hosts Annual picnics, sporting events and other recreational activities for their members throughout the year. Go to the website and check out the calendar of events that are posted on a monthly basis, including information on fishing, hunting and skiing events; deer hunting for persons who are non-ambulatory and various fall hunting events.

Oklahoma School for the Deaf

OSD is a residential and day school providing specialized educational services to children and youth who are deaf or hard of hearing. The School also serves as a statewide resource for the education of deaf and hard of hearing children who attend public schools in Oklahoma. Programs include:

  • Early Childhood Development Program for children ages 2-6;
  • Regional preschools in Collinsville and Edmond are provided by OSB in cooperation with local schools;
  • A comprehensive curriculum for residential and day students, with instruction in reading, language arts, math, social studies, science, physical education, fine arts, communication skills, computer skills, and other subjects;
  • Vocational and technical training;
  • Work experience in the community;
  • Social, cultural and recreational activities;
  • Student organizations;
  • Sports and athletic competitions; and
  • Outreach services including psychological and audiological evaluations, parent education programs, captioned videos, vocational and career education, counseling, and sign language instruction.

Reading and Literacy Program for Children who are Deaf. For deaf and hard of hearing youth ages 11-17 (5th - 11th grades) are held in the summers. The five-day program helps students learn to appreciate reading and advance their literacy skills. Students are tested and grouped by reading level. They receive five hours of instruction each day. Afternoons and evenings are filled with recreation and field trips.

Oklahoma Wildlife Department

Hunting and Fishing Licenses for People with Disabilities - Legally blind or physically impaired persons who have difficulty using fishing equipment are not required to purchase State fishing licenses if they carry with them a letter from a doctor specifying their disability and functional limitations.

Licenses can be purchased online or applications can be mailed to ODWC Headquarters in Oklahoma City.

Disability licenses are available to legal residents of Oklahoma who receive disability benefits through one of the following:
•Social Security Disability or Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
•Railroad Retirement
•Multiple Injury Trust Fund
•United States Postal Service

VSA Arts John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

An international organization offering arts-based programs in creative writing, dance, drama, music, and the visual arts. A variety of programs are offered through VSArts state affiliate organizations. Provides an online art gallery for the work of artists with disabilities. Sponsors arts festivals, Legacy art program for older adults, playwright discovery award, Young Soloists Award, arts programs for children, and events that showcase the talent of artists with disabilities. Provides an arts, disability and education searchable database with links to resources nationwide.

The VSA arts International Young Soloists Award annually recognizes outstanding young musicians with disabilities and supports and encourages them in their pursuit of a career. All types of music are accepted - country, classical, jazz, rap, rock, bluegrass, world, etc. A committee of distinguished music professionals selects the award recipients who receive $5,000 and the opportunity to perform in Washington, D.C.

Wilderness Inquiry

Organizes outdoor adventures for people with and without disabilities. Activities include dog sledding, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, hiking and pack trips.
